The Ford Expedition is a full size SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) which was built by Ford Motor Company and introduced in the market in 1997 as a replacement to the earlier model - Ford Bronco. The tail light is located in the same place of the vehicle rear, one just below the other in the Ford Expedition. The only tools required here are either a T - 20 torx or a 9/32 socket. The first step is to open the entire lift gate, not just the glass to expose the lamp assemblies. There, you will see two or even three Phillip screws holding the tail lamp/lens assembly in place. Unscrew them and set them aside.

Carefully pop the lens off and to the light. There are normally three "push ins" that hold the lens. It may feel like more bolts, but if you pull evenly and diagonally away from the vehicle, they will pop out just fine. There are normally two light bulbs in the assembly on all Ford Expedition.

The top one is the brake light/ turn signal bulb and the other one is the back-up bulb. Normally, there are two groups of wires once you get the light out. These wires are the light bubs and they come out by turning counter-clockwise and then pulling up on them. Get rid of all the remnants of the lens out.

Once the area is clean, pop in the bulb in the new lens and turns it clockwise to snap it into place. Secure the two screws which had been set aside. The Ford Expedition auto parts stores recommend a 4157LL rather than the Sylvania 4157K and this works out perfectly.

This process should take you at least ten minutes and you are ready to bring back your ford Expeditions to the road. It is always advisable to replace the tail lamps as soon as they get broken. This will of course avoid facing the wrath of law enforcers as well as for safety purposes. This process should therefore be considered easy to learn by every Ford Expeditions driver.

The tube contains tungsten electrodes and as the metal elements begin to heat up, they will strike these electrodes and as a result, light will be created.

HID lights are more or less like the fluorescent lights as they require ballast for the production of heat. Ballast is actually an instrument that is utilized to generate light. If the HID bulbs do not have ballasts then it will not be possible for them to produce lights because the reaction for the production of light will not start if there is an absence of ballast.

Tungsten electrodes: what are they?

Tungsten is actually an element (chemical) that is commonly known for its vigorous physical characteristics and high melting point. You will find this element in many electrical appliances and it is also found in HID lights. The color of tungsten ranges from steel gray to tin white.

What are HID lamps used for?

HID kits come in different colors. The color are described in terms of Kelvins (K). For example, 3000K, 5000K, 4500K, 6000K, 8000K, 10000K, 12000K etc...

How to find my bulb size for my car?

The easiest way is to check the actual bulb size in you car or truck right now. It is generally written on the base of the bulb. You can also check in the owner's manual or visit this Sylvania's Lamp Replacement Guide.

Typical bulb size that may be used on vehicles are H1, HB1, HB2, H3, HB3, H4, HB4, HB5, H6, H6M, H7, H8, H9, H10, H11, H13, 9003, 9004, 9005, 9006, 9007 and 880.

Should I get a HI/LO HID Kit?

This depends on your vehicle. If your vehicle has only one bulb per headlight, this means you will need a HI/LO HID kit. Installing a regular kit would eliminate the high-beams function on your vehicle. If your vehicle uses 2 light bulbs per headlight, you just need a regular kit for the low-beams.

What color to chose?

This is a matter of personal preference. The most light will be emitted by low K colors (4500K for example). Above this, the output decreases slightly.
Other colors can be used for tuner styles. More extreme colors will have a tendency to attract police attention so you may want to consider this before ordering an HID Kit above 8000K.

You hear about them all the time lately in a variety of applications. LEDs are well suited for traffic lights. They are used in the automotive industry for brake lights and turn signals. They are used for lighting of parking garages and streets. So, what's the big deal about LED lights as of late, especially as headlights in the automotive industry?

The transition from halogen headlights to LED headlights means white, crisper, and brighter light output, while at the same time offering greater dependability and longer lifespan which has made this technology the standard in other industry applications. The brighter light output results in better visibility and thus better overall safety and performance. A typical headlight assembly is expected to last about one thousand hours, while LED headlights exceed that amount by as much as fifty times. The color temperature of LED headlight assemblies is round five thousand Kelvin, which is much closer to the sun light than any halogen or incandescent headlight assemblies.

LEDs are also much more efficient because they produce more light output per watt than any incandescent bulb. In order to gain color, the traditional lighting methods require the use of filters, while LEDs can produce light of proposed color. In contrast to other light sources, LEDs emit much less heat, which can make for a maintenance-free headlight system.

As a result of all these advantage of LED technology in headlight systems over incandescent or halogen lamps, LEDs will eventually be in line with the current light source systems. Currently, the cost gap is what is slowing the transition but as the demand grows and production methods become more efficient, this will change.
